Installing KALI linux in vmware workstation pro14

Here i will use VMware workstation pro 14 & kali linix 2017.2 amd64 iso.


you can download the latest version of vmware workstation pro/player from this link:www.vmware.com

GO TO DOWNLOAD SECTION & choose between VMware workstation pro/Player


----------We are first trying on virtual machine, as to get an idea how to install it in real machine at first time perfectly without any errors or malfunction of harware/system----------
  1. Download and install the setup that you have downloaded from the link provided above
  2. Now run the vmware workstation and you will see the screen as given below
  3. On this, click on "create a new virtual machine" or go to files then click on new virtual machine
  4. Now, you will see the new virtual machine wizard. Here select "typical" for the most basic configuration
  5. Now comes guest operating system installation....................here select install from : installer disk image file(iso):   & give the location of the kali image iso file and select it.....................................also, if you see any error "cannot detect the operating system".........................ignore it as kali is a customized linux build by modifying debian or debian as a base
  6. Now comes "select a guest operating system"................select linux..........then debian  32/64 bit depending on i-xx or amd64 and latest version of debian if you are using a latest distribution of kali linux
  7. Next comes naming the virtual machine and defining the path for virtual machine folder that will be saved on main computer drive
  8. Next comes "specify disk capacity"..........................in this you need to define the amount of disk space that will be allocated/shared to the virtual machine by host one. Also select "store virtual disk as a single file"
  9.  On next screen at bottom you will see customize hardware button.
  10. After clicking on customize harware you will see the screen somewhat like given below................................................select memory and increase it to 1 gb and for processors select number of cores per processors to 2........& ticking all 3 options on the right for processor..................... and then finish
  11. Now you will see the screen as given below.............................In this click "power on the virtual machine"





Now Comes The main part. Here we will install kali linux in virtual disk created earlier

"Do not worry if you hear some beep sounds..........it's normal for kali"

  • You will see the kali boot menu.............select GRAPHICAL install for most basic and easy installation of kali.
  • Here select the language that suits you the best--------->continue.
  • Now, select the region to which you belong 
  • Now select the keymap.........i.e. the keyboard type
  • Now the setup will detect the hardwares in your system and confige the network(Here you may need to configure your network if you are using ethernet or wifi just connect to it and click next this will help you to ease the installation process. If you are not having it just go to next step i.e. skip that part by pressing escape key or clicking on continue) 



                                                                                                                                                                            "This part is important if you want a working network in your kali O.S. "
  • Now enter the hostname of your system........this is the name of your sytem
  • Now enter the domain name for your system......leave it blank if you didnt know what to write.(domain means your work area)
  • Now comes , setting password for your root user............by default it is "toor"  leave it blank if you want to proceed with toor as your root user password.
  • These options Can come/ can'nt come depending............even i myself doesnt know why it come sometimes
  • A new window will ask you to make new user beside root.......here you can add new users with any name
  • now, it will ask for username of your account.....provide it with a suitable name of your choice and define/set the password for that created user..........................beware !!  your entered password must match....it is provided for cross checking that you have entered password correctly...............for other users it is ok if you forgot you can change it from root.....but if your root password is lost/forgot then you are in big trouble
  • Now it will configure the clock.....if it fails it will ask you to enter your time zone.
  • Here comes the disk configuration part------->  select guided-use the whole disk(if you are installing kali on the main system with no other operating system..........else select manual to manually select the drive for installation) -------. select that disk and continue
     
     
  • now comes the partition scheme........select all files in one partition for hastle free partitioning of disk..........this will automatically create home, swap etc.
  • select finish partition and write changes to disk and again choose yes on next screen

  • The setup will be installing the system on your device........it a long task 10-30 minutes depending on your hardware capabilities.
  • Next screen will ask for "configuring the packet manager"......................you need to get connected to a working network(internet connection).Select yes in "use a network mirror"
  • Now it will ask for a http proxy(used for connecting for a proxy server insted of main server for configuration).........it is for advance user......leave it blank.
  • Also it will install the GRUB bootloader into your system so as to support multiple operating system..............and allows you to select one of them during boot-up.
  • On the  next screen you will see the setup will ask you for installing the GRUB to MBR(master boot record)................if kali is the only operating system in your machine select yes else no as it can make your other os undetectable during boot-up  but you can booth to that OS later from GRUB................................................i have selected yes. 
  • Next screen will ask for the device on which you want to do bootloader installation...........depending on your choice select it. By default it will be like  /dev/sda(to be selected if ony os is kali).........................................Also i have given the screenshot of the screen if you will select manually.

     
  • Now comes the climax,   "Installation Complete" on screen but it is not................click continue and it will prceed to finish the installation process.
     
  • Now your system will restart and will boot into GNU   GRUB   bootloader ......................................be patient an wait it will cleaning some sectors.
     
  • Now, you will see the login screen.......here enter the username---------hit enter----then password that you gave at the starting of the setup------------hit enter.

  • Wait it will be making your account for the first time use.......
  • Hurray !!!!!!!!!...........................YOU  HAVE SUCCESSFULLY  INSTALLED KALI LINUX
